On Wednesday, 19 November 2025, at 5:30 pm, Facoltà di Teologia di Lugano, affiliated with USI, will hold an encounter to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, with international guests and the screening of previously unseen testimonies. The encounter, to be held in Room A11 of the Red Building (West Campus Lugano), will be accompanied by a themed exhibition open from 12 to 30 November.
The conference on 19 November will offer a space for reflection on the meaning of historical memory and the need to preserve it as a warning for peace. It will feature Yoko Boscato from the Camelia Club Giapponese, Annalisa Manera from ETH Zurich and M. Antoni J. Ucerler, S.J. from Boston College (USA), three voices from different academic and cultural backgrounds, united by their commitment to passing on the memory of the events of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
During the evening, a video will be shown featuring unpublished testimonies from survivors, who will provide a direct and personal insight into the human consequences of the atomic explosions and emphasise the urgency of a renewed call for peace.
To complement the initiative, a thematic exhibition will be open in the Red Building from 12 to 23 November, Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 5:30pm.
