The LLM Laboratory of Modern Languages, in collaboration with the Student Corporation, is launching an open call for volunteer moderators for “Italian- French-, English-, and German-language conversation labs led by students”. Now in its fourth edition, this initiative offers participants an opportunity to improve their listening and speaking skills, while also enhancing their dialogue and critical thinking abilities to promote constructive and effective discussions.

Project Details:

Each conversation lab will be led by a moderator with advanced proficiency in the target language and will comprise a small group of students (up to a maximum of ten). The participants are expected to have a level between B1 and B2, which will be assessed by the moderator. The workshops will take place during the spring semester at the Lugano Campus, with each session lasting 60 minutes across a total of five meetings: two in March, two in April, and one in May.

The moderator’s role involves selecting a discussion topic in collaboration with the LLM coordinators and facilitating the conversation among participants during each session.

Applications:
To qualify, moderators must be native speakers or have an advanced language proficiency level (C2) in the selected language. Those interested can apply as volunteers on iCorsi via the following link by January 25th, 2026. Applications should include a brief motivational letter and a language proficiency certificate (if the candidate is not a native speaker). The workshops will be held if a minimum number of applications is reached. Selected candidates will be invited to a brief online interview with the coordinators, scheduled for mid to late January.

Moderators will receive a “Certificate of Participation” at the end of the project, documenting their contributions and the sessions they led.
