Call for 3 Informatics Alumni Scholarships

On the occasion of the Alumni in Informatics Reunion in May 2025, organised to celebrate the 20th anniversary of USI Faculty of Informatics of Università della Svizzera italiana (USI), the USI Alumni Service put up for auction ten limited-edition prints by artist Yuri Catania, entitled "Lvgaxy Astro Flowers", co-signed by the artist himself and by the Swiss astronaut Claude Nicollier, portrayed in the work. The auction aimed to fund scholarships for USI Informatics students.

For the academic year 2026/27, the Alumni Service of Università della Svizzera italiana is offering three annual scholarships of CHF 4'000.- each to students who, at the time of obtaining their university entrance qualification (high school diploma or equivalent), had legal residence in Switzerland and intend to attend a Master’s programme offered by USI Faculty of Informatics.  

The scholarships will be awarded based on academic performance (Bachelor’s degree results).

Conditions for participation

  • Applicants must have been residing in Switzerland (valid for Swiss citizens or foreign citizens with permit B for family reunification or permit C) at the time of obtaining the certificate giving access to university studies (high school diploma or equivalent). The presentation of the certificate giving access to university studies and of the certificate of residence as proof is required.
  • Applicants must be admitted to the first year of a Master’s programme at USI beginning in September 2026. Applications from students enrolled in a USI Master starting in the spring semester will not be considered.
  • Applicants must have obtained the Bachelor’s degree (passed all the exams and defended the thesis) with a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) corresponding to at least 75% of the highest possible grade at their former university.
  • Applicants who are still attending their Bachelor's degree will also be able to participate in this call as long as they have reached in the most recent exam session an average grade of at least 75% of the highest possible grade at their former university.
  • In the case of applicants who have achieved or are going to achieve more than one Bachelor’s degree, the scholarship will be awarded based on the academic results of the degree that qualifies them for the admission’s to the Master’s programme.
  • Applicants who already hold a Master’s degree will be considered if sufficient scholarships are available.  

Application procedure and deadlines

  • Applications must be submitted through the appropriate online form. The link will be provided with the letter of admission to the Master’s programme.
  • Applications must be submitted by 31 January 2026.
  • Applicants will be informed of the outcome of their application by 15 February 2026.
  • Incomplete or late applications will not be taken into consideration.
  • Selected applicants will have time until 15 March 2026 to confirm the enrolment and “secure” the scholarship.

Conditions for the payment of the scholarship

The tuition fees for the academic year 2026/27 will be covered by the scholarship. The student is, however, required to pay a deposit for the fall term 2026/27 according to the indications contained in the letter of admission to confirm the enrolment. This amount will be refunded by the end of the fall term. The fee for the spring term 2027 will be automatically covered by the scholarship.

The scholarship cannot be converted into cash. If the beneficiary decides not to enroll at USI or withdraws after the beginning of the studies, he/she may not request payment of the amount awarded.

This scholarship cannot be combined with other scholarships and/or study contributions grant awarded through the Università della Svizzera italiana, with the exception of those for student mobility for study and internship purposes.
