From 16 February to 16 March 2026, the photo exhibition "Memories in dialogue" will be open to the public on the ground floor of the Red Building at USI West Campus, Via Buffi 13, Lugano.

The exhibition, curated by CoPec (Building Care Pathways for Dementia: an integrated and participatory approach to preserving autonomy), and held under the patronage of the Cantonal Commission on Dementia (Department of Health and Social Affairs of the Canton of Ticino), was created with the goal of disseminating the results of pilot trials on cognitive maintenance and quality of life for people living with dementia, using art—music, images, and movement—as a therapeutic and relational tool. The images recount the experiences and emotions lived within the care settings involved in the project, highlighting the value of relationships, creativity, and dignity in care, while promoting a dialogue between art and science for the benefit of human health and wellbeing.

USI invites the public to the inaugural conference on Wednesday, 4 March at 6 pm in room A11 of the Red Building. The event offers an opportunity to explore the use of photography as a means of communication to portray people beyond their illness and make visible what cannot be revealed by a clinical diagnosis. The event is open to everyone, and registration is not required.

Speakers:

Prof. Emiliano Albanese, Institute of Public Health

Prof. Katharina Lobinger, Institute of Digital Technologies for Communication

Gabriele Balbi, Rector a.i., will open and moderate the event.

Introduction to the exhibition by Dr Anna De Benedetti, President of the Cantonal Commission on Dementia, and President of the CoPeC Cosortium.
