Jürgen Schmidhuber appointed Full Member of SATW
Jürgen Schmidhuber, Professor at the Faculty of Informatics and Co-Director of the Dalle Molle Institute for Artificial Intelligence (IDSIA), USI-SUPSI Institute, has been appointed Full Member of the Swiss Academy of Engineering Sciences (SATW) for his numerous and original contributions in the field of artificial intelligence.
Prof. Schmidhuber research, published in over 200 scientific journals, contributed in making IDSIA an internationally renowned Institute. His work on artificial neural networks are at the base of technological innovations used by leading companies such as Google, Apple and Microsoft and earned him and his research team the Helmoholtz Award 2013 and the victory in nine international competitions on machine learning.
The Swiss Academy of Engineering Sciences is an umbrella organisation recognised by the Confederation bringing together a large network of experts and specialised associations: over 330 individual Full Members and more than 50 affiliated companies. SATW manages projects on scientific themes of great importance for Switzerland and promotes scientific interest and understanding, especially among young people.
