Student associations recognized by USI have been invited to participate in the event “Rethinking Your Idea of Housing – Homes That Contribute to Wellbeing”, promoted by Cooperative d’Abitazione Svizzera and under the patronage of the City of Lugano. The event will take place on 20 April 2026 at Villa Saroli, starting at 18:30.

In a context where an increasing number of elderly people and individuals living alone occupy homes that are larger than their actual needs, situations of isolation and loneliness are becoming more common. At the same time, many young people and students face growing difficulties in finding affordable housing solutions. The event aims to foster reflection and discussion on possible intergenerational synergies, capable of generating mutual benefits: greater companionship and security for elderly people, and more sustainable housing opportunities for younger generations.

Throughout the evening, testimonies, ideas, and contextual data will be presented in order to provide a clearer understanding of the current situation and possible solutions. The initiative also seeks to contribute to the creation of a network of contacts and collaboration models between young and elderly people who wish to support one another, each according to their own availability, timing, and possibilities.

Developing a network that facilitates encounters and exchanges between generations – including students and older adults – can bring tangible benefits to all involved.

At the end of the event, an aperitif will be offered.
