Art & Science Exhibition, from micro to macro

Research takes shape, becomes visible, turns into experience. What normally remains unseen, hidden within laboratories, confined to data and scientific imagery, emerges and transforms into a visual narrative, capable of surprising and engaging.
Claudia Cantoni, artist, and Ester Piovesana, neuroscientist and scientific writer, are the creators of the exhibition Art & Science, from micro to macro, a project that brings aesthetics and knowledge into dialogue.
The exhibition weaves together the micro and the macro, life, the body and nature. Microscopic images of cells and neurons, invisible to the naked eye, are revealed through forms and textures that evoke natural landscapes: branching structures resembling trees, patterns reminiscent of marine environments, geometries that reflect the complexity and constant transformation of life.
Università della Svizzera italiana invited artist Claudia Cantoni and biologist Ester Piovesana to present this project, recognising its value as a form of science communication capable of bringing seemingly distant disciplines closer together. The exhibition offers an encounter between art and science that engages the public not only intellectually, but also through a visual and emotional experience.
Launched during the 30th Dies academicus of USI and the UniVerso Open Day on Saturday 25 April, the exhibition enriched both events and celebrated the dialogue between different fields of knowledge, inviting visitors to rediscover science even in its most unexpected aspect: its beauty. The exhibition will remain on display and open to visitors in the Foyer of the Aula Magna (Lugano West Campus) until Friday 15 May, Monday to Friday, from 12:00 to 17:00. However, public access will be subject to other events that may be taking place in the hall.
