Alan Valnegri appointed as the new USI Director of Operations

Following a public call for applications, the University Council has today appointed Alan Valnegri as the new Director of Operations at USI, upon the recommendation of the Interim Rector. Alan Valnegri was born in 1978 and is a Swiss citizen. He is married and the father of two daughters. He graduated in 2002 with a degree in Management Information Systems from HEC Lausanne, following his studies at the Cantonal Business School in Bellinzona. His academic profile is further bolstered by several prestigious international certifications and recent specialisations in innovation, entrepreneurship, and leadership. 

Alan Valnegri was selected from approximately 60 candidates for his robust, interdisciplinary experience gained over twenty years in digital transformation and operational and strategic management across the auditing, banking, and healthcare sectors: since 2015, he has served as the Head of Organisation and Processes at the Ente Ospedaliero Cantonale (EOC). 

The USI Director of Operations (under Art. 15 of the Statute) is responsible for the effective and efficient management of all university services, ensuring that the strategy defined by the University Council and the Rectorate is translated into a coherent strategy for administrative and management services, in support of academic activities. The new Director will take up his post on 1 September 2026.

The Rector, Prof. Gabriele Balbi, expressed particular gratitude to the current Director of Operations ad interim, Milan Savic, who has led USI's administrative services for over a year with great skill and institutional spirit. From 1 September 2026, Milan Savic will resume his role as Deputy Director of Operations.
