As part of the 2026 Nature Festival, the USI Quality and Sustainability Service is hosting an encounter to reflect on one of the most controversial aspects of the ecological transition: biodiversity offsetting. Taking the specific case of a mine in northern Sweden as a starting point, the session explores the practical, theoretical, and ethical limits of this tool, which allows for compensating for environmental damage by generating benefits elsewhere, highlighting the compromises, tensions, and ambiguities that permeate conservation policies today.

The event, held by PhD candidate Ludovico Giacomo Conti, is scheduled for Friday, 22 May 2026, from 6:00 to 7:00 pm in Room A11 of the Red Building at the West Campus in Lugano, at the Università della Svizzera italiana. The venue is easily accessible by public transport (Lugano, Università stop).

The event is aimed at an adult audience.

Participation is free of charge, with registration required via the following form:  https://usi.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_8jj6qa3hKuYBZs2
