Visit of the Education Counsellor from the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Switzerland to USI

On Wednesday, 3 June, USI welcomed Mr Li Xudong, Education counsellor of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Bern, and Ms Luo Yangzi, Third Secretary for Education, for an official visit.
The delegation was received by the team of USI’s Laboratory of Modern Languages, represented by Susanne Stigen Pescia, Head of the Laboratory, Johanna Miecznikowski-Fuenfschilling, Scientific Director, and Stefano Tardini, Head of the eLab – USI’s eLearning Lab.
During the meeting, the Università della Svizzera italiana, the activities of the Laboratory of Modern Languages, and the projects developed by the eLab were presented. The Chinese delegation then provided an overview of the current context of Chinese language teaching and study in Switzerland, with particular attention to prospects for cooperation in the field of language education, with a view to fostering mutual understanding and further strengthening collaboration.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to highlight the strong relationships that USI maintains with numerous Chinese universities through exchange agreements and academic collaborations. The University also continues to attract a significant number of students from China, reflecting the growing interest in an international educational environment that combines academic excellence, multilingualism, and intercultural openness.
The visit continued with a tour of the campus, during which the delegation had the opportunity to learn more about the University’s facilities, services, and academic environment.
The meeting represented an important opportunity for dialogue on the future development of cooperation in the teaching and learning of the Chinese language, confirming a shared commitment to promoting linguistic knowledge and mutual understanding between Switzerland and China.
