Enos Bernasconi appointed member of the Senate of the Swiss Academy of Medical Sciences

Enos Bernasconi, Professors Emeritus at the USI Faculty of Biomedical Sciences, has been appointed member of the Senate of the Swiss Academy of Medical Sciences (SAMS). The appointment represents a significant recognition of his scientific and professional contribution and will allow him to participate in the activities of the Foundation's main governing body.

Founded in 1943, the Swiss Academy of Medical Sciences (SAMS) promotes excellence in medical and clinical research, supports dialogue between science, medicine, politics, and society, and plays a leading role in drafting recommendations and guidelines on medical-scientific and ethical issues. As an independent institution, it also contributes to training the next generation of researchers and fosters interdisciplinary dialogue in the healthcare sector.

The Senate is the highest body of the Foundation and comprises approximately 300 members, including elected members, delegates, and guests. Its primary responsibilities include electing governing bodies, approving the Academy's guidelines and recommendations, defining strategic directions, and promoting scientific initiatives of national interest. Members of the Senate serve in an honorary capacity and contribute, according to their respective expertise, to the activities and projects promoted by the Academy.

Enos Bernasconi's appointment will officially take effect at the next Senate meeting, scheduled for November 2026 in Bern, where he will receive his diploma. His appointment to the SAMS Senate strengthens USI's participation in key national scientific bodies. It confirms the University's contribution to advancing medical research and to the dialogue among science, institutions, and society.
