USI Rector Boas Erez will discourse with renowned graphic designer from Ticino, Orio Galli, upon the impact that digitisation had on publishing, especially on the field of graphic design. The event will be held on Monday, April 9 at 6pm in room A12 on Lugano campus.

The introduction on a large-scale of new technologies has always led to profound cultural, economic, and social changes. The digital world is causing a transformation that goes at the very roots of several aspects of our lives. In the past century Ticino has been one of the most internationally vibrant laboratory in the field of graphic design; to understand the significance of digitisation in this field the discussion will retrace the many innovations that Orio Galli experienced in its 50 years of career.

In order to build a future with confidence, it is important to learn from history through the experience of people. Understanding digitisation under this light is part of the academia responsibilities, especially at a time when such institution is called upon to modify its centenary methods, and at the same time to train professionals able to manage a world that is rapidly transforming.

The exchange between Orio Galli and Boas Erez will set the stage for the symposium #digitale21, organised by the Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences, with the aim of developing a creative and interdisciplinary dialogue on digitisation between academia, researchers, and the actors involved in the fields of innovation and economy.
