Laboratory of Modern Languages
The Laboratory of Modern Languages (LLM) is part of the "Services for Education, Student Life and Internationalisation" area.
It organises and coordinates practical language courses in Italian, French, German, and English, designed to strengthen and deepen language proficiency through the four essential skills: listening and speaking, reading and writing. Language learning is further enriched by academic and specialised courses, as well as courses preparing students for language certification exams.
The programme offers courses from A1 to C1 level according to the Common European Framework of Refernce for Languages (CEFR). Courses are free of charge for all members of the academic and administrative community of Università della Svizzera italiana.
USI Alumni, students enrolled at other Swiss universities and external participants may be admitted to fee-based courses, subject to availability. Fees and registration procedures are available on the LLM website.
The Laboratory of Modern Languages also hosts the official Goethe-Institut examination centre of Italian-speaking Switzerland and collaborates with the DELF DALF examination centre for Grigioni and Ticino.
Since 2003, it has been a proud member of both the Association of Language Centres of Swiss Higher Education Institutions (CSUS) and the European Confederation of Language Centres in Higher Education (CercleS).
