Summer Research Internship
The Initiative
The Summer Internship Fellowship is intended for students of the Master of Science in Economics at Università della Svizzera italiana who wish to strengthen their quantitative and analytical skills through direct exposure to academic research and policy-oriented analysis.
The program offers the opportunity to gain firsthand experience in economic research by working closely with faculty and researchers and participating in the department's academic activities. Fellows are encouraged to engage actively in discussions, research meetings, and collaborative projects throughout the internship period.
Description
During the internship, Fellows will work closely with a faculty member and support their research activities. Depending on the project, activities may include data collection and management, empirical analysis, literature reviews, preparation of research materials, and support for ongoing research projects. Research areas may include several fields of applied economics, such as gender economics, labor economics, urban economics, household finance, health economics, and political economy.
Duration and Remuneration
The Summer Internship Fellowship has a duration of six weeks and requires an average workload of 80%. Fellows will receive a remuneration for the entire internship period and 6 ECTS.
Procedure
Each year in April, the Master’s directorate will publish a call for applications specifying the number of available Fellowship positions, the internship period, the research topics offered, and the application deadline. Typically, between three and five positions will be available. Interested students will be invited to submit their applications according to the procedures and deadlines indicated in the call. Applications will be evaluated based on academic background, quantitative skills, and the candidate’s motivation and interest in the proposed research areas. Results will be communicated to the applicants in May.
