Swiss University Championships for the second time in the Swiss Italian-speaking region

The Swiss University Championships 2019 will be held from 31 May to 2 June at the Centro Sportivo Nazionale di Tenero (National Sports Centre, Tenero). The event is organised for the second time in a row by USI Sport Service in collaboration with the Swiss Federation of University Sports (SUS). All students interested in taking part can still apply to compete for our University team.

600 students hailing from different Swiss schools of higher education will compete for three days in 6 disciplines: soccer, volleyball, beach volley, basketball, handball, and ultimate Frisbee. The goal is to win the title of Swiss University Champions, to gain access to the European, and World Championships.

Università della Svizzera italiana will also take part in the competition and invites everyone interested in competing for team USI to contact the team leader Egidio Zanotto.

According to Giorgio Piffaretti, Head of USI Sport Service: "Being a small Sport Service, we take great pride in hosting the Swiss University Championships. This sporting event is the peak of a year of training, and all competitions are of the highest technical level. Bringing together athletes and staff for three days in one of the most stunnig sports facilities in Switzerland (Centro nazionale della gioventù in Tenero) allows for exchange and dialogue between students from different universities. It is also a great opportunity to promote USI and its study offer. I also would like to point out that this year, other services will join the staff of the event, as the perfect chance to build and strengthen team spirit”.
