Fascinating Informatics 2019 took place at the USI Faculty of Informatics from September 9 to 13, with nine vocational and high school students coming from Aargau, Bern, Obwalden, Thurgau and Valais. Under the supervision of USI professors and researchers, they worked on the development of a range of IT projects, including programming for mobile devices, the interaction between graphics, visualization and gestures, the creation of microcontrollers, computer simulations, and the exploration of the most promising emerging technologies.
The young students were thus able to experience with enthusiasm how varied, versatile, innovative and fascinating the current frontiers of information technology are.
The initiative is promoted by Schweizer Jugend forscht (Swiss Science and Youth Foundation) and aims at raising awareness on informatics among future generations to consider training in this field, which is increasingly pervasive and infrastructural in modern society. USI has taken part in the event every year since 2008.
The national finals of Fascinating Informatics took place on Friday, September 13 at the Fachhochschule Nordestschweiz (FHNW) in Brugg-Windisch. All 33 students - from all over Switzerland - who took part in the study week presented the results of their work, which were carried out at the FHNW, the University of Basel, the University of Bern, PwC Schweiz and USI.
