The Faculty of Biomedical Sciences hosts a public conference aimed at introducing “Population neuroscience”: an interdisciplinary research perspective which uses knowledge and tools from genetics, epidemiology and neuroscience to give integrated answers to questions about the development of our brain and the role played on it by hereditary, environmental and behavioral factors. It endeavours to identify new ways for diagnosis and treatment of neurodegenerative diseases like dementia.

The conference will be held on Friday, 23 September, at 9:30 am in room A-31 (Red building, Lugano campus) featuring Prof. Caterina Rosano, from the Department of Public Health of the University of Pittsburgh, and Dr. Valentina Garibotto, from the Department of Radiology and Medical Informatics of the University of Geneva.

The conference will focus in particular on research on healthy and impaired cognitive function in older age. The talk will also demonstrate examples of the use of molecular imaging techniques to identify reliable biomarkers of Alzheimer’s disease in the population.
