The Student Council, the "government" of the newly established Students Corporation, met on Tuesday by videoconference to make its first decisions. It was done with the desire to contribute to student life with a little "normalcy" and above all with the desire to be there, for the students and with the students, even on this occasion.

The Student Council, the "government" of the newly established Students Corporation, met on Tuesday by videoconference to make its first decisions. It was done with the desire to contribute to student life with a little "normalcy" and above all with the desire to be there, for the students and with the students, even on this occasion.

The members of the Council - the student representatives in the Academic Senate: Michele Calzolari, Riccardo Di Lullo, Alessandro Muscionico and Simone Giacomelli - have given some thought to whether to begin the work of the Corporation.

In the end, together with the University, the answer was affermative, for two reasons: the desire to pay a small contribution to the life of the community; and above all the desire to 'be there' in this particular moment for our University, our society, our world. Faraway but close, and always for the students and with the students.

Support to seven student association projects

Despite the uncertainty of the current situation, the Student Council has given its support to seven candidate projects by student associations, which have been considered in line with the objectives of the Corporation and which, after the COVID-19 emergency, may also contribute to "jumpstart" student life on our campuses.

They range from the "sustainability shelf" designed by riOSA to the "Philosophical Days" that Ratio aims to propose in the autumn in collaboration with the University and other local partners; from the laboratory of theatre critique and journalistic writing proposed by Il Letterificio in synergy with the LAC, to the film festival proposed by the students of the Mendrisio campus; from OSA conferences, by now an " identifying" feature of student life, to the infrastructural improvements for the Photography Laboratory and the casting room at the Academy of Architecture.

Two contributions to solidarity and cohesion

The Council also decided to support a group of students from the Faculty of Informatics in their idea of creating "Aiuticino", a web platform to promote the exchange of information and the matching of supply and demand for voluntary work in aid of the coronavirus emergency.

Finally, the student representatives wanted to publish on the iCorsi area dedicated to the Corporation, some Forums open to everyone, as a further tool for students to express its voice and feel united at a time when it is not possible to meet in class, study side by side, and have a chat in the hallway.

The Forums are open to anyone who wants to share ideas, problems, solutions, thoughts about the new experience of eLearning, as well as about solidarity initiatives.
