Gabriele Neri, lecturer-researcher at the USI Academy of Architecture, has been chosen by the Italian Academy for Advanced Studies in America at Columbia University (New York, USA) for the Weinberg Fellowship in Architectural History and Preservation (2020-2021), a prestigious appointment that stems from a careful international selection and which was awarded for his research work entitled "Graphic satire and the public perception of architecture: a missing genre". Thanks to this Fellowship, Gabriele Neri will be able to further his research interests in New York for a period of four months, starting in January 2021.

"The Weinberg Fellowship in Architectural History and Preservation, awarded by the Italian Academy for Advanced Studies in New York, will allow me to pursue the research interests that I have developed at the Institute for the History and Theory of Art and Architecture in Mendrisio in recent years," explains architect and lecturer-researcher Gabriele Neri. "My work focuses on the complex relationship between satirical graphics and the public perception of architecture, a subject that involves different areas of study: from the tradition of political and social caricature to architectural criticism, from the history of the city to the relations between architecture, psychology and propaganda. In particular, my experience at Columbia University will allow me to explore this subject in the context of New York Ciry - one of the major cultural, artistic and editorial centers in the world - and to broaden my horizons through discussions with international scholars".

The Weinberg Fellowship is one of the core activities of the Italian Academy, the institute created in 1991 on the basis of a statute signed by the President of the Italian Republic and the President of Columbia University. Established in 2017 thanks to a generous donation from the Sidney J. Weinberg Jr. Foundation, the research fellowship is aimed at understanding and preserving the architecture of all geographical areas and periods. >> https://italianacademy.columbia.edu/Weinberg-Fellowship
