The semifinals of the Science and Youth Foundation's National Competition were held on 14 January 2023 at USI's East Campus. The young candidates, including several students from Ticino, pitched their research. The names of the finalists who will participate in the National Competition finals, hosted this year by the SQUARE Campus in St. Gallen from 20 to 22 April 2023, were announced.

After an initial selection, of the 386 applicants (350 projects) who applied for the 2023 National Competition, 183 (167 projects) were admitted to the regionals.

10 applicants (10 projects) from Southern Switzerland convinced the regional jury of experts and gained access to the next stage. On Saturday, 21 and Saturday, 28 January, it will be the turn of the young participants from the German-speaking region of Switzerland and their French-speaking colleagues. All projects that pass the regional selections will complete the group of qualifiers for the final stage.

The finals of the 2023 National Competition will take place from 20 to 22 April 2023 at the University of St. Gallen (HSG) / at SQUARE. At that time, the best entries will be awarded coveted special prizes, some of which will allow the winners to participate in international scientific research competitions.

During the next three months, the young participants will be individually mentored by their respective experts, who will provide them with valuable advice and support them in perfecting their projects in preparation for the finals.

Last year, the competition finals were hosted by Università della Svizzera italiana at the East Campus (video below).
