The success of ChatGPT, OpenAI's artificial intelligence capable of dialogue and producing texts in natural language, has prompted Google and Microsoft to announce the gradual inclusion of such solutions in their products, particularly in search engines. These innovations will enable users to obtain articulate and targeted answers opening up a new world of competition for large companies.

This type of research has been going on for decades, and the results are now reaching users, explained Andrea Rizzoli, director of the Dalle Molle Institute for Artificial Intelligence (IDSIA USI-SUPSI), as a guest on Teleticino.

However, the technology is far from perfect: "the knowledge these tools have is statistical, based on correlations and not on cause and effect," explained Rizzoli. The outcome is that sometimes you get wrong or inaccurate answers, and the feeling is "that you are quizzing a poorly prepared student".
