Camilla Basso, a researcher from the Laboratory of Translational Surgical Research, Department of Surgery of the Ente Ospedaliero Cantonale and the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences at USI, has been awarded one of the Fellowships 2022 promoted by IBSA Foundation for scientific research. The scientist distinguished herself for her research project "Fat-infiltrating microbiota: a new player in obesity?", among the 211 applications received from 29 countries, in the tenth edition of the call that reached a record number of projects submitted.

The award ceremony for the 6 winning projects was held on Thursday, 20 April 2023 in Lugano, at IBSA's Cosmos plant. The six winning projects were awarded an equal number of scholarships worth CHF 30,000 each. The participation in the 2022 call for applications was very strong, confirming the trend of the last editions, in which female researchers participated more than their male colleagues (61% vs. 39%). Applications were collected in five scientific areas - dermatology, endocrinology, fertility/urology, pain medicine/orthopaedics/rheumatology and the special edition dedicated to Healthy Aging.

Presenting the scholarships during the award ceremony were Arturo Licenziati, President and CEO of the IBSA Group, Silvia Misiti, Director of the IBSA Foundation for Scientific Research and Luisa Lambertini, Appointed Rector of the Università della Svizzera italiana.
