The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is the international reference framework for sustainable development and its implementation is also important at cantonal and municipal level.
The Federal Office for Territorial Development (ARE) provides initial support for cantonal, municipal and third-party projects with the aim of implementing the objectives and strategic directions of the Sustainable Development Strategy 2030.
Theme
This year's theme is Sustainable Living. This thematic focus potentially affects several Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda (SDGs) as well as the three SDS 2030 priority thematic areas 'Sustainable Consumption and Production', 'Climate, Energy and Biodiversity' and 'Equal Opportunities and Social Cohesion'.
Criteria
The project must be:
- Innovative
- Contain an in-depth reflection on the inclusion of the three dimensions of sustainable development (ecological responsibility, social solidarity and economic capacity)
- Long-term effects and takes into account the needs of future generations;
- The link between the project and the 2030 Agenda must be clearly highlighted
Funding and duration
The maximum amount is 20.000 CHF. The federal contribution must not exceed 50 per cent of the project costs. Projects must start in early 2024 at the latest.

The application must provide the most complete picture of the project, while limiting itself to the essential aspects (max. 8 pages plus annexes).
