The fourth lecture of the course Culture and Health - Healing Words will be held on Monday, 13 November 2023, at 6 pm in the East Campus multipurpose room. Expressive writing is a practice that involves recording emotional experiences. This practice has been proven to have a positive impact on both physical and mental health. James Pennebaker will summarise key findings from over 1400 scientific articles to demonstrate its potential. By drawing on knowledge from various disciplines, he will show how this simple act of writing can induce transformative change in our lives.

Marta Fadda, discussant, will talk about how narratives in healthcare enable both patients to bear witness to their unique identity and the physician to become an ally, able to witness, protect and enrich the plot of their patients' stories.

Speaker:
James Pennebaker, The University of Texas at Austin, Austin. Texas USA

Discussion with:
Marta Fadda
, Institute of Public Health, Università della Svizzera italiana

The reading will be interpreted by: Igor Horvat
