On Tuesday, 21 November, Sapienza University of Rome awarded architect Mario Botta, founder of the USI Academy of Architecture, an honorary doctorate in History, Design and Restoration of Architecture.

The award was conferred on him for his extensive and prosperous career, rooted in a profound understanding of the past, which he has employed to design forward-thinking and innovative architecture. "By awarding Mario Botta an honorary doctorate," said Sapienza Rector Antonella Polimeni, "we recognise his exceptional qualities demonstrated through his extensive study and professional career, which perfectly align with our University's tradition of excellence."

Piero Cimbolli Spagnesi, coordinator of the PhD programme in History, Design and Restoration of Architecture, and Professor Luca Ribichini of the Department of History, Design and Restoration of Architecture also spoke at the event. The ceremony closed with a lectio magistralis by Mario Botta.
