The first series of "Innovation Roundtable" events organised by USI Transfer, the university's technology transfer service, comes to a successful conclusion with the Medtech sector.

A round table between academics and business professionals to discuss emerging technologies, research opportunities, latest trends and challenges. Participants share their knowledge and discuss innovative solutions to meet industry needs using USI's expertise. The results of the initiative were many and varied, including the submission of partnership research projects such as Innosuisse's Innovation Project and the SNSF's Lead Agency programme.

In November 2023, the first event with a group of professors from the Faculty of Informatics and interested companies from the sector promoted the initiative, generating enthusiasm from the participants and emphasising the importance of having opportunities for exchange to create connections and identify project partners. The first half of 2024 was followed by three other events that addressed current issues relevant to companies throughout the Ticino region. On 26 April, the 'Innovation Roundtable on Drone Applications' was held with the collaboration of a number of partner companies of the Swiss Drone Base Camp in Lodrino, while on 14 May, the focus shifted to Fintech, involving professionals from the north of Switzerland as well.

Stefan Kremer, Deputy Head of Market Development Banking at Swisscom, comments “It was an honour and a great pleasure for me to meet with the numerous, highly competent participants from science and industry at the Innovation Roundtable on FinTech. Even days after the event, exciting ideas often come into my mind. USI was very good at bringing us together in Lugano. Now it is up to us to continue networking and strengthen exchange and cooperation.”

Last but not least, on 28 May, during the 'Innovation Roundtable on Medtech', Swiss Medtech Ticino's member companies took the floor and those present shared and explored some of the many aspects and themes of medical technology, a fast-growing sector in Ticino.
