MARVIS - Space research with the SNSF

MARVIS is a funding instrument designed to strengthen Switzerland’s core competencies in the space sector through multidisciplinary research projects. It supports consortia involving higher education research centers and industrial partners, fostering innovation in alignment with Swiss space policy.
Eligibility

Researchers must be affiliated with a higher education research center in Switzerland as defined under Article 4 letter c numbers 1 and 2 of the Federal Act on the Promotion of Research and Innovation (RIPA).

The applicant must be a natural person employed by the research center and act as the corresponding applicant. The applicant must also devote at least 50% of their time to scientific research or teaching activities. If they work less than 50%, they are still eligible if scientific research is part of another professional activity.

Researchers must demonstrate scientific qualifications and relevant background for the project. They must also show that they are making a substantial contribution to the proposed research project.

The research must either be conducted in Switzerland or have a close link to Switzerland (e.g., the applicant is employed at a Swiss institution or has an assurance of employment in writing).
Funding and duration
Grants up to CHF 800k per year (up to CHF 1.2 Mio during peak years). The total duration is 1 to 7 years, with initial funding for up to 4 years. An extension is possible.
Timeline of the call
- Submission deadline: 16 December 2024.
- Earliest start of approved projects: 1 December 2025.
