The newspaper Domenica del Corriere del Ticino interviewed some students from across the Alps who, after completing their Master's degree in medicine at USI and passing the federal exam, chose to remain in Southern Switzerland to advance their careers. These stories express gratitude towards the academic and healthcare sectors in Ticino, highlighting the positive elements of the educational approach offered by the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences.
Linda is one of the students from ETH Zurich, the University of Basel and other Swiss universities who chose Ticino to complete their university education. Three years ago, after earning her Bachelor's degree, she took the train to Lugano to pursue her Master's degree in medicine. "I learned Italian along the way. I appreciated the presentation of Ticino's educational offerings from the very beginning," she says.
Matthias from Davos realised after the first semester that he had made the right choice by coming to Ticino for his Master's degree. He appreciated the direct contact and ongoing exchange with professors and tutors at the faculty, which greatly impressed him.
Proud of this feedback, the Dean of the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences at USI Giovanni Pedrazzini and the Vice-Dean for Education Luca Gabutti emphasise the centrality of the students in the programme: during the Master's course, values and a passion for a profession that is not easy are instilled in addition to skills. Moreover, maintaining relationships with other Swiss universities and integrating with the Swiss medical culture is essential. It's also worth noting the quality of the training model: this year, for the second time, every student who completed the Master's in Medicine at USI successfully passed the federal exam, which is standardized across all Swiss faculties and qualifies them to practice medicine.
