Democracy: what does the future hold?

The encounter "Democrazia: quale futuro?" will be held on Saturday, 15 November at 9:30 am in the West Campus Lugano Auditorium. Organised by the Ticino Chamber of Commerce, the event is dedicated to "the upsurge of sovereignty in democratic nations, addressing the concerning authoritarian tendencies in the United States, and discussing the role of Switzerland's small semi-direct democracy in an increasingly complex and challenging international landscape."
The event (held in Italian), made possible by the support of USI and BancaStato, will be introduced by Monica Duca-Widmer (engineer and president of the USI Council) and Andrea Gehri, an entrepreneur and president of the Chamber of Commerce.
The discussion will feature:
Ferruccio De Bortoli, columnist and former editor of Corriere della Sera
Marina Masoni, lawyer, president of Ticinomoda and former State Councillor
Mirko Manzoni, Swiss ambassador to South Africa
Oscar Mazzoleni, political scientist and professor of political science at the University of Lausanne
Massimiliano Herber, RSI correspondent in the United States.
The debate will be moderated by Reto Ceschi, journalist and head of the RSI News Department, while the conclusions will be presented by Adriano Cavadini, economist and former National Councillor.
