From December 2015 to December 2016, Università della Svizzera italiana (USI) has introduced a new governance model, thus reinforcing the organisation and the unity of the university to address the implementation of ongoing developments. The new model was approved during the ordinary meeting of the University Council, on December 2, 2016, which included the appointment of Monica Duca Widmer as President of the University Council, Prof. Daniela Mondini and Prof. Michele Lanza as pro-Rectors, and the institution of an Academic Senate, as devised by Boas Erez, Rector of USI from September 1, 2016.

The new governance model was officially presented to the media and the academic community at the press conference, in which State Councilor Manuele Bertoli and USI Secretary General Albino Zgraggen took part.
