USI professor wins Jozien Bensing Research Award 2016 for "remarkable accomplishments in the area of health communication research"

The Jozien Bensing Research Award is an international award for talented early-career researchers awarded biennially at the conferences of the European Association for Communication in Healthcare (EACH). The award was first given in 2008, making Prof. Hannawa the fifth awardee to date. 

According to Prof. Arnstein Finset, Chair of the awarding committee, "The jury found the recipient of this year's award within only 7 years since her PhD has made remarkable accomplishments in the area of health communication research. Prof. Hannawa's research represents a successful, innovative and insightful application of communication research in the practically and theoretically important area of clinical safety. She has also contributed to the development of new networks of communication research and practice and shown extraordinary initiative and accomplishment by being the founding Director of the Center for the Advancement of Healthcare Quality and Patient Safety (CAHQS) at the USI University, Switzerland".

"I am very humbled by this recognition", says Professor Hannawa. "It evidences that my mission to enact a global, transdisciplinary science to improve the quality and safety of healthcare finds resonance among the leading minds in the field. This, to me, is the most rewarding aspect of receiving this award."

To underscore the pioneering role of the USI Faculty of Communication Sciences concerning an interdisciplinary approach to healthcare quality and patient safety, her forthcoming book Communication Pearls for Safe and High Quality Medicine: Case Studies for Physicians will be available in June 2017.
