Prof. Boas Erez appointed Rector of USI

The University Council, during its regular session held today, July 1st, 2016, has appointed Prof. Boas Erez Rector of USI, following a public international competition.

Boas Erez is currently Full Professor of Mathematics at the University of Bordeaux, France.

Born in Chur, Switzerland, in 1962, he obtained his scientific degree (Matura) at the high school in Lugano in 1981, his graduate degree in 1985 and his Ph.D. in 1987, both in mathematics and both at the University of Geneva, where he was also a research assistant from 1985 to 1990. From 1990 to 1993, he was Benjamin Peirce Assistant Professor at Harvard University. As of 1993, he is Professor of mathematics at the University of Bordeaux, where he has held several positions at institutional and faculty levels, within committees and programs, doctoral commissions and international scientific projects. He has been several times member of the Board at the University of Bordeaux 1, of which he was also vice president from 2004 to 2008. He has published numerous valuable scientific articles and has organized annual international conferences in his field of study.

The Rector will take office from September 1st, 2016, succeeding to Prof. Piero Martinoli at the helm of the University, whose mandate has reached maturity. The Rector will be available for interviews as of that date.

The call for the position of Rector was published by public international competition, for which 18 candidates from Switzerland and several European countries applied.
