USI hosts the Swiss University Championships 2018

The 2018 edition of the Swiss University Championships are organized by USI Università della Svizzera italiana and will take place from May 11 to 13 at the National Youth Sports Centre Tenero (CST). Over 700 student-athletes, representing 14 higher education institutions in Switzerland (universities, polytechnics, universities of applied sciences) will compete in seven different athletic disciplines.

USI will take part in the national event with two teams in the disciplines of beach volleyball, 7x7 football, volleyball and 3x3 basketball, while the Championships also include golf matches and ultimate frisbee. The tournaments will take place on Saturday from 9AM to 7PM, and Sunday from 8:30AM to 3:30PM at the CST, whereas the golf tournament will take place on Friday and Saturday in Ascona and Losone.

For Giorgio Piffaretti, head of the USI-SUPSI Sport Service who is organising the event: “It is a great opportunity for Ticino to host the Swiss University Championships, not only for the economic impact of the over 2500 people who will be visiting and staying in the region throughout the 3 days of the event, but above all for putting our region and its university under the spotlight at national level, offering an opportunity of exchange and dialogue with respect to different university experiences present in the country".

The event is supported by the Swiss University Sport Federation (www.shsv.ch), the umbrella organization for the university sport services in Switzerland.
