The mediator is an institutional figure established at USI in 2018 to facilitate conflict resolution within the University upon written request by any USI administrative or academic staff member. Attorney and Notary Francesco Galli succeeds Professor Bertil Cottier, who served in this role from 2018 until his retirement.

Francesco Galli was appointed mediator by the Rectorate in February 2022 in consideration of his skills and experience. Among the various positions, he has performed as SSR mediator, for the Italian language, from 2014 to 2021. As per USI directives, the duration of his mandate is two years (renewable twice).

He acts autonomously and ensures utmost confidentiality during procedures. Any USI employee, both academic (including professors on an annual contract) and office staff, may appeal to the mediator. The mediator's services do not apply to students or third parties who have a relationship with the University.

More information on the role of the mediator and the petition process is available at: https://www.desk.usi.ch/it/mediatore-delluniversita
