In order to help current students and recent graduates to find their way in the working world, many of our alumni shared their career story. Here the story of Andrea Dell'Olio, Digital Marketplace Manager at BOGGI Milano in Mendrisio (CH). USI Degree: Master in Management, 2014.

How did you start your career?

During my last semester at USI I did a field project for the consulting company C-Infinito with the aim of developing a business model for the startup Keros Digital. This experience raised in me the passion for digital and eCommerce and after a short internship in the CRM dept for Bocconi University I join the eCommerce department in Guess. I worked for this company for almost 6 years, and in this period I specialized myself in the Digital Marketplace business, working with titans like Zalando, About You and Asos. I joined Boggi Milano at the beginning of 2021 to lead the project of launching the Brand in all the digital marketplace of Europe in a first stage.

Why did you choose a career in BOGGI Milano?

The idea to build a project from scratch was the driving force that made me accept this role, and digital marketplace business at the moment is a land with enormous and still unexplored potential.

What is your current role/duties?

My role is a project management role, I am coordinating all the internal departments (logistics, IT, accountability) to "make the marketplace project happen". I have to negotiate with the potential partners the best commercial conditions, make the business plan for each marketplace to open (with focus on budgeting, buying, planning and marketing) and discuss with the board for the approvals of all projects.

In your opinion, what are the qualities necessary for a successful career in BOGGI Milano?

I need a startupper mindset to drive the digital transformation inside the company and a strong commercial focus to negotiate with partners, but especially internally in the company (most important).

What positive aspects and qualities meant most to you during the study programme you attended?

The most important quality during my study programme but always in life is the continous willingness to test myself outside of the comfort zone and the thirst for learning.

What competences and/or skills acquired in your USI Study Program have been useful/are useful to your professional career?

Be a team player. This is the most important skill I acquired at USI. Alone we are nothing. This is also true in work.

What is your advice to USI students entering the job market?

Look for the job you like most, not necessarily the highest paid. If you still don't know which job you like most, don't stop looking for it until you find it. Try to learn from every experience you have.
