USI supports Corsa della speranza (Run for Hope), celebrated in more than fifty countries around the world to raise awareness of cancer disease and raise funds for scientific cancer research. It will take place in Lugano on Saturday, 17 September 2022, in Piazza Riforma. From 29 August 2022 a presale is organised at the East Campus Sports Hall.

The race pack (CHF 25 for adults or CHF 10 for kides) can be purchased at the East Campus Sports Hall reception desk from 29 August 2022. Included in the race package is a 2nd class Arcobaleno day pass valid on the day of the event for all zones and means of transportation in the Ticino and Moesano fare network.

The funds raised, consisting of registrations and spontaneous donations, are paid in full to the Ticino Cancer Research Foundation, which funds international research projects in Ticino, including projects at IRB and IOR (Institute for Research in Biomedicine and Institute of Oncology Research, affiliated with USI).

The Run for Hope is a non-competitive event; the nearly 5-kilometres route is entirely flat. Participants can run, march or simply stroll through the most characteristic streets of Lugano. The event on Saturday, 17 September, will kick off at 3 pm at Piazza Riforma with various activities and entertainment. The actual run will start from Piazza Riforma at 6:30 pm, finishing at Piazza Manzoni. Those who did not register in advance can do so on the day of the event from 11 am in Piazza Riforma.

USI invites the academic community to run in support of cancer research and to post their photos on social media with the hashtags #muoviamolasperanza2022, tagging @usi_university.
