The 2023 edition of Confronti will be held on Tuesday, 28 November 2023, in the West Campus Lugano Aula Magna. This year's conference will focus on sustainability and its social acceptance. Professor Rolf Wüstenhagen from the University of St. Gallen will introduce this theme at the conference's opening. Following this, a round table discussion will take place, providing an opportunity to delve deeper into the necessary reflections and changes required to broaden social acceptance of the complex and delicate process that society and the economy must undertake to become increasingly sustainable.

Ensuring sustainable development is all about promoting growth that caters to the present generation's needs while not compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. It is an increasingly crucial objective for many countries, as it guides their decisions regarding the economy, society, and the environment. Given that these dimensions are closely interconnected, along with politics, achieving sustainable development requires a realistic strategy that is carefully defined and consistent with the available economic resources. This approach helps to mitigate the inevitable negative impacts and ensure collective benefits.

Grounding these strategies requires a broad participatory process based on understanding and acceptance of changing production and consumption patterns. The new infrastructure will contribute to changing the landscape around us.

For an area, this means trying to find the right balance between its natural vocation, development trajectories and the achievement of set goals; it means taking into strong consideration the context within which interventions and necessary measures are planned to avoid them being a source of conflict later on. In other words, preventing the emergence of conflictual circumstances implies designing viable and beneficial initiatives for the community and business.

Is it possible to find a consensus in society to achieve these goals?

Confronti 2023 aims to help identify which public policies and innovative practices can promote a more sustainable and shared future by fostering dialogue between economy, society and territory.
