To help current students and recent graduates navigate the world of work, several USI Alumni shared their career paths and career story. Here the story of Edoardo Madussi, Director Business Development at Intelligencia in New York (US). USI Degrees: Master in Communication, Management and Health, 2012 and Bachelor in Communication, 2010.

How did you start your career?

It started all from a tough decision: continue with research and possibly follow an ambitious path to work on a Ph.D. with a program in Brussels or lean into a job opportunity with an unknown (at that time) small company in the pharma distribution space. At the company called Multipharma SA, I was given the opportunity to try developing new business - this led to new clients in the US market. I was sent there to grow the business for a few weeks... I never made it back!

Why did you choose a career at Intelligencia?

It provides the right space to develop innovative ideas and the support to implement them.

What positive aspects and qualities meant most to you during the study programme you attended?

USI gave us the tools to truly have an international mindset, work in diverse teams and succeed in creative projects.

What competences and/or skills acquired in your USI Study Program have been useful/are useful to your professional career?

I sincerely believe that every single class in the syllabus provided me with something that I ended up putting to use in the various roles I worked in. Philosophy - which was something elective I decide to take, in addition, was the only class that did not have any concrete application on the job. Once I reached people management roles, in particular, all the communication classes became extremely valuable.

What is your advice to USI students entering the job market?

Regardless of the job industry you are in, just like in research, nothing is really invented from scratch. Use what the university provided you with to create logical connections and build innovation. Any job that you take should be something where you are able to contribute to the development of something innovative.
