To help current students and recent graduates navigate the world of work, several USI Alumni shared their career paths and career story. Here the story of Carlotta Serafini, Head of Communication at VAIA srl in Trentino (I). USI Degree: Master in Gestione dei media, 2014.

How did you start your career?

I started as a journalist, when I got offered to manage L'Universo, the magazine of the university. From that day, everything just came smoothly in the big "universe" of content creation.

Why did you choose a career at VAIA srl?

I wanted to work for a green startup, involved in reforesting my own region after a terrible storm, while pursuing a social impact. Young team, big dreams!

What is your current role/duties?

I'm in charge of communication and events.

In your opinion, what are the qualities necessary for a successful career at VAIA srl?

  • Be ready to do something different everyday - small team, big challenges.
  • Problem solving - nothing ever come easy.
  • Social skills - PR is the key.

What positive aspects and qualities meant most to you during the study programme you attended?

A very practical approach to what I studied - theory is not enough.

What competences and/or skills acquired in your USI Study Program have been useful/are useful to your professional career?

Nothing in particular, everything in general. I had awesome and average professors, I studied interesting and boring subjects, dealt with cool challenges and annoying duties, found lifelong friends and less nice people... a very accurate picture of what a professional career actually is.

What is your advice to USI students entering the job market?

Don't look just for one work experience. Travel, meet people, get involved with projects, challenge yourself with different jobs, master news skills. The real study program has yet to begin!
