Following the third and final meeting of the BiodiverCittà lecture series organised by USI in collaboration with SUPSI on Friday, 17 May, participants were invited to plant a small plant in a flowerbed at the East Campus Lugano.

Various herbs and aromatic plants such as nasturtium, mallow, sunflower, poppy, thyme, rosemary, and sage were planted in the lawn area next to the Campus to promote biodiversity and support pollinating insects. The green space overlooking Via la Santa will benefit not only the residents but also various species of insects, birds, and animals, in a small but meaningful gesture in favour of the local fauna. The flower bed was set up by the firm Benicchio di Lamone, and the participants were also able to take home a mix of seeds of indigenous Ticino plants to create further small oases of biodiversity in the city.

This symbolic gesture concluded the BiodiverCittà lecture series organised by USI and SUPSI, with the aim of raising awareness and informing the public and institutions on how to promote biodiversity in an urban context. It saw the participation of landscape architect Maja Leonelli, nutritionist Pier Luigi Zanchi and the project manager of Servizio Verde Pubblico (Public Green Service) of the City of Lugano, Erika Franc Benetollo.
