To help current students and recent graduates navigate the world of work, several USI Alumni shared their career paths and career story. Here the story of Ugo Goffi, Assistant Manager at Deloitte in Zurich (CH). USI Degrees: Master in Banking and Finance, 2019 and Bachelor in Economics, 2016.

How did you start your career?

I started as a Trainee and progressed over the years with different roles.

Why did you choose a career at Deloitte?

I have always thought Consulting was a great place to start my career due to the dynamism of the industry and the challenging environment. In addition, the Forensic team where I applied operates in a niche, whose characteristics were in line with my personal interests.

What is your current role/duties?

I am an Assistant Manager within the Risk, Regulatory & Forensic team. I work mostly with Swiss-based financial institutions supporting them in Compliance-, Risk- and Regulatory-related aspects.

In your opinion, what are the qualities necessary for a successful career at Deloitte?

Humility, flexibility and curiosity are key.

What positive aspects and qualities meant most to you during the study programme you attended?

In addition to the technical skills acquired in the different courses, I particularly appreciated our Professors when sharing practical experiences from their respective fields.

What competences and skills acquired in your USI Study Program have been useful/are useful to your professional career?

Discipline, problem solving skills and, to some extent, the practical utilization of the tools that I use on a daily basis in Deloitte.

What is your advice to USI students entering the job market?

Focus on the long-term aspect of the position (career possibilities, learning opportunities,...) and be open-minded about industries you are not familiar with or never thought could be your future.
