In order to help current students and recent graduates to find their way in the working world, many of our alumni shared their career story. Here the story of Agnese Eva Zamboni, Jr. Software Engineer at adesso Schweiz in Lugano. USI Degree: Bachelor in Scienze informatiche, 2025.
How did you start your career?
My journey began with a three month internship that became the launchpad for my career as a junior software engineer. I started the internship in January 2025, during the last examination session of the bachelor. Combining the exams with the internship was not an issue, since the team was aware of it and very supportive. It was an incredible opportunity to start my career, since being in a consulting company means that you work on many different projects in different domains, and use different technologies, which allows you to learn a lot about the industry and grow your technical skills.
Why did you choose a career at adesso Schweiz?
adesso Schweiz is a leading IT consulting company that combines technical expertise with care for the employee. The most appealing aspect for me was the wide range of high-profile clients and impactful projects. The company is internationally acclaimed, and although we’re spread across several cities in Switzerland, it never feels like it, since your team can include colleagues from every location, not just your own.
What is your current role/duties?
I am a junior software engineer, currently mainly working on a BPM project, but my duties have ranged depending on the project I was working on. To name a few, I have worked in test automation, computer vision, and end-point development.
In your opinion, what are the qualities necessary for a successful career at adesso Schweiz?
In my opinion, the key qualities for a successful career at our company are curiosity and flexibility. Since we work in IT consulting, technology and the market are always evolving, so being eager to learn and able to adapt quickly is essential. At the same time, our office has a great atmosphere, and maintaining open, respectful communication helps keep that environment positive and productive.
What positive aspects and qualities meant most to you during the study programme you attended?
What I appreciated most about the study programme was the broad range of topics we covered. It provided a solid foundational background in all areas of computer science, with a practical, hands-on approach that helped bring the theory to life. Another key strength was the flexibility to tailor the programme toward the areas that interested me most, which made the learning experience both personal and meaningful.
What competences and skills acquired in your USI Study Program have been useful/are useful to your professional career?
The Bachelor at USI helped lay the foundational skills for a position as a junior software engineer. The practical projects helped with being prepared in a professional environment, and I appreciated that most of the technologies introduced at USI are actually being used in the industry.
What is your advice to USI students entering the job market?
