Lawyer Suzanna Farace Marazza, collaborator at the Competence Centre in digital law (CCdigitallaw) of USI eLearning Lab, has been appointed as a member of the Federal Media Commission (FMEC). The appointment, made official on Friday, 12 December 2025, confirms USI's contribution to the work of a strategic federal body in the Swiss media and communications landscape.
The appointment of Suzanna Farace Marazza to FMEC is part of USI's qualified presence within the Federal Media Commission. Currently, Colin Porlezza, Associate Professor of Digital Journalism at USI Institute of Media and Journalism, has also been a member of FMEC since 2022, with recognised expertise in the fields of digital journalism, datafication, and media ethics. In the past, Prof. Bertil Cottier was also a member of the Commission, confirming the continuity of the USI's contribution to this important advisory body.
At USI, Suzanna Farace Marazza, MLaw, works as a lawyer at CCdigitallaw, where she deals in particular with copyright, licenses for use – including open licenses – and personal data protection, with a specific focus on the context of scientific and academic research. At the same time, she is pursuing a PhD at the University of Neuchâtel, focusing on the challenges that digitisation and artificial intelligence pose to memory preservation institutions in relation to copyright.
The Federal Media Commission (FMEC) plays a key advisory role for the Federal Council on issues related to the evolution of the Swiss media system, bringing together experts and scholars with legal, economic, and communications expertise. The appointment of Suzanna Farace Marazza further enriches the Commission's interdisciplinary profile and strengthens USI's voice in the national debate on media, law, and digital transformation.
