In order to help current students and recent graduates to find their way in the working world, many of our alumni shared their career story. Here the story of Arianna Pittaluga, Advocacy & Influence Specialist at L'Oréal in Milan (I). USI Degree: Master in Digital Fashion Communication, 2023.
How did you start your career?
I started my career at L'Oréal during my MSc in Digital Fashion Communication, with a really enriching internship experience in the L'Oréal global HQs in Paris as Global Social & Brand Content Manager Assistant for L'Oréal Paris.
Why did you choose a career at L'Oréal?
I've always been really passionate about beauty, and L'Oréal is the best in this industry, so it was one of my top choices from the start. I was also looking for a very big company where I could really learn as much as possible in a global environment, specifically at digital communications positions and L'Oréal offered many different options in this field, so it was really a perfect match.
What is your current role/duties?
As "Advocacy & Influence Specialist", I'm in charge of all influencer marketing, events & PR strategies and campaigns in the Italian market, specifically for L'Oréal Paris makeup & megabrand. I get to work on product launches, local and global events for influencers (such as Cannes Film festival, Paris & Milan Fashion Week, Sanremo Music Festival...) as well as consumer activations and PR plans.
In your opinion, what are the qualities necessary for a successful career at L'Oréal?
You need to have a big passion for what you do! We are always reaching new goals and aim higher with each project, so having a lot of motivation, energy and a strong interest in what your job requires is essential.
What positive aspects and qualities meant most to you during the study programme you attended?
I think that all the hands-on projects we got to work on, especially with real companies had a real impact in how I approached my job, especially at the beginning: being able to study while applying the subjects on something practical made the transition from studying marketing to working in marketing more seamless and organic.
What competences and skills acquired in your USI Study Program have been useful/are useful to your professional career?
In my Masters, we had a great number of different courses in the same semester, and therefore we had disparate topics to study and projects to work on - this made me develop project management as well as time management skills. I also strongly believe that during my experience at USI I managed to enrich my creativity and really learn how to make the most out of it in a business environment.
What is your advice to USI students entering the job market?
Try to understand what is your passion and what gives you energy, then look for a position that best matches these aspects. This way, you'll be able to give your best and learn a lot, really making you satisfied with what you do.
