Institutional Communication Service
24 June 2017
Saturday, June 24, 2017, 122 graduates of 19 different nationalities received their diploma in Architecture during the ceremony held in the Mendrisio campus Aula magna. The event was opened by Prof. Boas Erez, Rector of Università della Svizzera italiana, followed by the speeches of the Mayor of Mendrisio, Carlo Croci, and the designated Director of the Academy of Architecture, Riccardo Blumer. Musical interludes were offered by Duillio Galfetti and Luca Pianca.
After completing the 6 years study curriculum at the Academy of Architecture, where an innovative and generalist teaching model is applied focusing on interdisciplinarity and the humanities, students were able to acquire an open and critical expertise, ranging from the various types of architecture to urban and landscape design, from adaptive reuse, to sustainable construction.
The theme of the Diploma 2017 is dedicated to Salzburg, amidst memory and contemporaneity, directed by architect Walter Angonese, who has dealt with projects in the strategic areas of the Austrian city.
The students’ works supervised by the professors of the Academy were divided in 13 design studios and were carefully evaluated by a selected board, chaired by Ticino architect Aurelio Galfetti.
The ceremony also inaugurated the exhibition of the diploma projects, a selection of which will displayed at the Museum der Moderne Salzburg, in autumn 2017.
The exhibition in the Gallery and the Foyer of the Canavée Building will be open until July 8, 2017, Mondays to Saturdays, 10am – 5pm (free entrance).
