Research support

This section of the website is dedicated to Research Support and provides USI researchers with:

  • Information on all open calls for research projects and information events;
  • Specific information on each funding programme for PhD students, postdocs and experienced researchers;
  • Support for the preparation of applications;
  • Support and advice to write a Data Management Plan;
  • Research project administration;

This information and support is provided by the Research Service of USI (Università della Svizzera italiana), whose mission is to support USI researchers in their scientific activities.

The service hosts the regional Euresearch office, a non-profit organisation funded by the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI) which promotes and facilitates the participation of researchers, organisations and companies in European R&I projects and programmes.

SNSF Starting Grants 2025

Deadline: 15 January, 2024
Internal deadline: 1 October, 2024

Eligibility

  • PhD defence after 1 Feb 2017 + min. 2 years of postdoc research or medical degree after 1 Feb 2013 + min. 3 years of clinical work and 2 years of research.
  • Swiss link: Swiss nationality or 2 years of research in Switzerland or hold a Swiss Master’s or PhD.

Funding and Duration

Max. CHF 1 million for project-related costs + the PI’s salary (unless already covered) for 5 years.

Budget covers the PI’s salary, personnel costs, equipment and other research costs (such as travel, conferences, open research data costs).
 

USI internal procedure

An internal assessment is necessary to obtain the institutional support letter requested by the SNSF.

Candidates must send their dossier to the Research service ([email protected]) by 1 October 2024:

  • CV + publications list
  • Cover letter
  • Support letter from USI professor(s) supporting their application.
  • applicants without a professorship must send their dossier (CV incl. publication list, cover letter and support letter by USI professor(s) for the internal assessment by 1 October 2024. Priority will be given to external candidates.
