Research support
This section of the website is dedicated to Research Support and provides USI researchers with:
- Information on all open calls for research projects and information events;
- Specific information on each funding programme for PhD students, postdocs and experienced researchers;
- Support for the preparation of applications;
- Support and advice to write a Data Management Plan;
- Research project administration;
- Technology transfer activities.
This information and support is provided by the Research and Transfer Service of USI (Università della Svizzera italiana), whose mission is to support USI researchers in their scientific activities.
The service hosts the regional Euresearch office, a non-profit organisation funded by the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI) which promotes and facilitates the participation of researchers, organisations and companies in European R&I projects and programmes.

ERC Synergy Grants
Deadline: 8 November, 2023
ERC Synergy Grants fund ground-breaking frontier research projects across all fields of science. This highly competitive programme supports interdisciplinary projects bringing together different skills and resources to tackle ambitious research problems.
Eligibility
ERC SyG support teams of 2 to 4 Principal Investigators (PI) to jointly address ambitious research problems that could not be tackled individually. Up to 1 PI can be from a third country: researchers based in Switzerland are therefore eligible to apply with funding by the European Commission.
Funding and duration
Synergy Grants can be up to a maximum of € 10 million for a period of 6 years.
They cover up to 100% of the total eligible direct costs of the research plus a contribution of 25% of the total eligible costs towards indirect costs.
