Structure and contents

The three-years Bachelor in Philosophy (BAF) requires the acquisition of 180 ECTS. After a first year consisting of core courses in the main areas of philosophy, each student is encouraged to reflect on how best to structure their own study plan, taking into account future career plans. Therefore, by the end of the first year, each student is faced with a choice: either to complete the BAF with the track entirely in Philosophy, or to supplement their philosophical education with expertise in another discipline, thanks to the numerous interdisciplinary tracks currently active.

The students who choose to complete the BAF with the track entirely in Philosophy (180 ECTS) can take full advantage of the numerous elective courses offered in the various philosophical disciplines. In the numerous seminars, students benefit from teaching methodologies aimed at fostering debate and philosophical growth. In addition to the traditional frontal lecture, students engage in group work on texts, giving presentations in class, and writing papers that are then discussed with the lecturers.

The students who decide to combine their philosophical education with competences in another discipline may choose one of the following minors: (i) communication, (ii) economics, (iii) literature, (iv) mathematics and programming, (v) theology. Whichever minor is chosen, students must obtain 120 ECTS in Philosophy and 60 ECTS in the other discipline. Successful completion of an interdisciplinary course gives the student a degree in philosophy with the minor in the chosen discipline indicated on the diploma, thus paving the way for further career paths after the BAF.

A further opportunity open to all students is to supplement their education with courses in English. For example, those who choose the track entirely in Philosophy can complete a total of 77 ECTS in English, thus acquiring excellent preparation for international Masters and, more generally, for those who decide to continue their studies outside the Italian-speaking environment. However, students who wish to do so may still complete the BAF by attending the totality of courses in Italian.
