In order to help current students and recent graduates to find their way in the working world, many of our alumni shared their career story. Here the story of Constantin Ulmer, Engagement Manager for Deloitte in Zurich (CH). USI Degree: Master in Management, 2011.

How did you start your career?

I continued working with Professor Nowak following my graduation on research before dedicating full-time to building a start-up in the area of Investor Relations and Capital Market Communications.

Why did you choose a career in Deloitte?

Management Consulting always appealed to me and I came to like Zurich as a city during one of my internships during studies.

What is your current role/duties?

I am a Engagement Manager, which means you manage client projects from start to end incl. management of the client, the project scope, project delivery and risk.

In your opinion, what are the qualities necessary for a successful career in Deloitte?

Flexibility, ownership, pragmatism, trust and teamwork.

What are USI’s positive features and qualities?

Diversity, internationality, providing opportunity and support for standing up of new ideas.

What competences and/or skills acquired in your USI Study Program have been useful/are useful to your professional career?

Understanding team dynamics, organization and prioritization of work and research skills.

What is your advice to USI students entering the job market?

Do internships during your studies; keep talking to people in your network to understand what careers, jobs and options are out there - I keep discovering new ones.
