In order to help current students and recent graduates to find their way in the working world, many of our alumni shared their career story. Here the story of Jurijs Fridkins, Head of getapro.lv & getapro.ee in Baltic Classifieds Group in Latvia. USI Degree: Master in Embedded Systems Design, 2007.

How did you start your career?

I started by being accepted to participate in GE graduate Leadership program.

What is your current role/duties?

Lead projects and initiatives, responsible for major and complex assignments with business implications that contribute to the overall business strategy.

What positive aspects and qualities meant most to you during the study programme you attended?

Ability to meet people from different countries, learn from them. One of the main impulses I got when studying in USI was – go and try, there is nothing impossible. And this is something I learnt from my fellow students.

What competences and/or skills acquired in your USI Study Program have been useful/are useful to your professional career?

Ability to find required information in a short period of time, ability to learn quickly, critical analysis skills. As my Master project’s tutor said: “The good engineer is not the one who can solve the problem, but is the one who can find the problem first, and then solve it”.

What is your advice to USI students entering the job market?

  • Never give up
  • Strive for your career dreams, you will be rewarded for your efforts.
